Renting a girlfriend, explained

Is renting a girlfriend like therapy?

3 min read

No. A rental day is good company for a real occasion — a family visit, a holiday, a day out. It can make a hard day easier, and conversation with someone kind can help. But a companion is not a therapist, and the day is not treatment.

What a rental day can do

  • Make a family occasion or holiday easier to face
  • Give you good company and an easy conversation
  • Take away the minute of arriving alone

What it cannot do

  • Treat loneliness, depression or anxiety
  • Replace friendships or support over time
  • Offer professional advice of any kind

Easy company without pressure.

When to talk to someone

If loneliness or low mood is shaping your days, a doctor or a counsellor is the right first step. A rental day can sit alongside that support; it should never stand in for it.

Common questions

Can I talk to her about personal things?

You can talk as you would with good company. She will listen kindly, and she is not a counsellor.

Does she know if I am going through something hard?

Only what you tell her or put in the brief.

Is it wrong to book company because I am lonely?

No. Wanting company for a day is ordinary; just let it be company, not treatment.
