How the day runs
What you can do in Manila depends on the traffic, not the clock. Crossing EDSA after five can cost an hour, so most days settle in one district — Makati or Bonifacio Global City — and stay there. Dinner is around seven; Poblacion stays up late in a way the business districts do not. Malls are not a last resort but the city's everyday meeting place: cool, central and open until nine or ten, with families out in them on weekends.
Getting around
Each business district is pleasant to walk inside and tiresome to leave. Makati and BGC are four kilometres apart — twenty minutes at a good hour, an hour and a half at a bad one. Most people use ride-hailing; the MRT and LRT are fast and inexpensive but packed at busy times. The Pasig River ferry ignores the traffic altogether and stops near Intramuros.
When Manila is busiest
December to February is the cool, dry and pleasant part of the year; March to May is hot. June to November brings the rains and the typhoons, which give a few days' warning and can close roads and offices for a day or two. Christmas is the biggest family season of all — Filipinos say it starts in September — and by November the malls and the roads are at their busiest. Christmas and New Year are when most people go home.

Questions about Manila
Is Christmas a good time to bring her to my family?
It is the time everyone goes home, so it is also the time that fills first. Give us the date and the city early, agree the introduction in writing, and allow for traffic that can double the journey in December.
Why does Sunday morning keep being recommended?
Because the roads clear. Sunday morning is the one time Intramuros, Rizal Park and the bayside walk are easy to reach, and the best time to see the old walled city.
What happens if a typhoon is forecast?
Between June and November one can arrive with two or three days' notice and stop the city for a day. If your day falls in that season, agree a fallback date or an indoor plan when you book.
