How the day runs
A London day has a familiar shape: a late breakfast or brunch, a long walk — a park, the river, a market — and Sunday lunch at a pub if it is the weekend. Dinner is usually between seven and half past eight, often after a drink. Dress is relaxed nearly everywhere, though a handful of older West End rooms keep a jacket rule.
Getting around
The Tube shuts around midnight on most nights; on Fridays and Saturdays the Night Tube runs on several lines. Black cabs and licensed minicabs fill the gaps, so a late finish just needs a little planning. London is wide: a day based in Notting Hill or on the South Bank works better than one that tries to do both, and a family visit in the suburbs is usually a train from a mainline station.
When London is busiest
Summer weekends and December are the peaks. Christmas is the main family season, and Wimbledon fortnight and the summer wedding run make June and July busy too. Spring and autumn are calmer and often the nicest time for a long walk through the parks.

Questions about London
I am bringing her home for Christmas outside London. How does that work?
Plan it as one full day: meet in London or near your family's station, travel together, and agree in writing when the day ends and how she gets back. Her travel is part of the cost, and Christmas dates go first, so ask early.
What is a good first hour in London?
A coffee in Marylebone, a walk along the South Bank, or a stroll through Notting Hill's streets. All are public, easy to find and give you time to talk before the rest of the day.
How much notice does London need?
A few days for most dates. For a December weekend, or a Saturday in the summer, give it a week or two.
