How the day runs
Toronto is casual and unpretentious — smart-casual works almost anywhere, and only a few downtown rooms ask for more. Dinner is between seven and nine. It is one of the most multicultural cities anywhere, and food from every corner of the world fills a day here, from a market lunch to a family table.
Getting around
The subway and streetcars serve the core well, though the network is smaller than the city and closes around half past one. In winter the PATH, a network of underground walkways downtown, makes January far more bearable. Family in the suburbs usually means a GO train or a drive.
When Toronto is busiest
May to October is the comfortable season, and the film festival in September is the busiest week. Winter is long and properly cold, so from December to March plans move indoors. Thanksgiving in October, Christmas, Diwali and Lunar New Year are all family occasions in this city.

Questions about Toronto
Can she join me for Thanksgiving or a holiday dinner?
Yes. Tell us the date and where the family lives, agree the day in writing, and meet somewhere public first so you arrive together. Holiday dates go early.
Does winter make a day out difficult?
It shapes the plan rather than stopping it. From December the day is built around indoor places, and the PATH lets you move between many of them without going outside.
Where should we start?
The Distillery District or Queen West — walkable, full of places to sit and more relaxed than the financial core.
