Where to meet in Lisbon
- Príncipe Real
- Chiado
- Alfama
- Belém
How the day runs
Lisbon is warm and informal: dinner from about eight to ten, and smart-casual is fine almost everywhere. A day here moves between viewpoints, pastries and long lunches, and Sunday is for family meals that last the afternoon.
Getting around
Metro, trams and funiculars cover the centre, and the old trams are genuinely useful, not just for tourists. The city is built on hills, so plan walks with that in mind. Belém and the coast towards Cascais are an easy train ride.
When Lisbon is busiest
The good weather lasts — March to October is comfortable. High summer brings the most visitors, so quieter neighbourhoods are better in July and August. June has the Santo António festivities, and Christmas is the family season.

Questions about Lisbon
Is Lisbon easy on foot?
Mostly — but the hills are real. Alfama and Chiado mean steep climbs; for a gentler day, Príncipe Real and Belém are flatter and just as pleasant.
Can she come to a family lunch?
Yes. Tell us the date and area, agree the introduction in writing, and meet somewhere public before arriving together.
Can we spend part of the day on the coast?
Yes. The train along the river to Belém and on towards Cascais makes an easy afternoon, if it fits in the agreed day.
