How the day runs
Plan a Bangkok day around the sun. From late morning until the middle of the afternoon the heat makes any long walk outside hard going, so the shape that works is a market or a temple early, a long lunch or a gallery somewhere cool through the middle, and the river or a rooftop view once the light softens. A family meal tends to fall between seven and nine, and the street kitchens keep cooking long after that. Light clothes suit almost everything — but a temple wants shoulders and knees covered, so put it in the plan if the day includes one.
Getting around
Above the streets runs the BTS Skytrain; below them, the MRT. Both shut down around midnight. At rush hour the roads barely move, and a hop that the train makes in minutes can eat most of an hour in a taxi, so a day spent zigzagging between districts by car is mostly a day spent in traffic. The Chao Phraya is the other main road: the express boats get you to the old town and Charoenkrung with fewer surprises than the streets. For the last few hundred metres down a soi, there is a motorbike taxi rank at nearly every corner. Meeting at a station on the line you will use all day saves the first hour.
When Bangkok is busiest
November to February is the cool, dry stretch and the easiest time for a day spent outdoors. The hot season follows from March to May, peaking in April. Roughly June to October belongs to the southwest monsoon — rarely rain all day, more often one hard downpour in the afternoon that floods a few streets and drains away. Two holidays empty the city towards home towns: Songkran in mid-April, when Bangkok turns into a water fight for several days, and the New Year break. Those are the weeks families gather, and the ones to request early.

Questions about Bangkok
I am taking her to my family's home in Bangkok. Where do we meet first?
Somewhere public near a station on your way there, a little before you are due — a café in Ari or around Sathorn works well. Half an hour together to run through the introduction you agreed means you arrive as two people who have already said hello, not two strangers on a doorstep.
Should the day stay on the river or along the Skytrain?
Pick one. The river side — the old town and Charoenkrung — is slower and more beautiful; the BTS side — Thonglor, Ari, Sathorn — is quicker to get around and easier to finish. A plan that crosses between them in the late afternoon spends its best hours in a car.
Can we still plan a day during the rainy season?
Yes; it changes the afternoon rather than the day. The storms are short and local, so keep a covered place for an hour after lunch and leave a margin for the roads, which flood in patches and slow everything behind them.
